Chandana Ghose: A versatile woman with brilliant social skills and oodles of vigor and enthusiasm. She puts in her efforts to offer Jhinuk a novel dimension.

Story of Jhinuk

Jhinuk was conceived in the year 2012, when Madhumita, impregnated with the idea of giving back to the society, decided to procreate and promote the buried gems of rural Bengal. Enthralled by few highly talented rural artisans, mostly women, she decided to tell their stories by bringing their talent into the limelight. Her compassionate and creative mind enthused and encouraged three more women Papri Dey, Chandana Ghose, and Sangeeta Banerjee, to take the plunge and work towards this noble cause. Today, this terrific tetrad works in concert to realize the dream they had envisaged.

The Journey

The journey began when these enthusiastic women, with a shared dream, reached out for inspiration. An inspiration that would change their lives and others’ too. Madhumita came across a few capable, yet downtrodden women, and was deeply moved by the tales of their misery. Dejected at how such rare talent was browbeaten and repressed by their families and society, the team decided to pump life into them, and give them a fresh start.

Thus, Jhinuk was born, an idea:

  • to connect with the ethnicity of Bengal
  • to uncover talent that lay forcibly dormant for long
  • to add meaning to lives and
  • to KONNECT WITH KOLORS

The raw materials

Madhumita and her team pick the best of yarns from native Bengal. They procure high-quality raw material such as Tussar silk, Dupion silk, Matka silk, Pure silk, Bishnupuri silk, Ghicha silk, and Linen, from the various cities and districts of West Bengal. To get the best of silks, the team has established contact with renowned vendors from Murshidabad, Bankura, Birbhum, Midnapore, Purulia, Baharampore, and Rampurhat. Buying raw materials from different zones ensure variety and freshness.

The artisans of Jhinuk, under the guidance of Madhumita and her team, use these raw materials to sew up high-quality ethnic sarees and ethnic wear. Madhumita adds drama to these basic materials by introducing fusion. Ranging from modish prints, beautiful batik work, to the graceful combination of aari and katha, Jhinuk has it all.

Jhinuk raising the bar

With its root deeply set in Kolkata, Jhinuk endeavors to increase their reach beyond the state and the country. They have organized various exhibitions across Indian cities including Kolkata, Delhi, and Hyderabad. At present, Jhinuk is looking forward to spreading their wings. Madhumita and her team intend to raise the bar and take Jhinuk’s ethnic creations to the national and global platform.
